“The whole secret of a successful life is to find out what is one’s destiny to do, and then do it.”
Famous quote by Henry Ford, an American entrepreneur who revolutionized not just the auto industry but manufacturing in general. Early on in life, he kept feeding his interest in anything mechanical. He would travel the countryside doing repair work for free. It was his ingenuity that created the inexpensive, mass produced Model T which sold 6,000 the first year and topped 500,000 the second year. Because of Ford’s success, they were able to lower the price of the car from $850 to $360.
His dream not only became a reality but it outlived him: assembly line and mass production, and Ford Motor Company. His greatest asset was not his mechanical ability, shrewdness, business savvy, or money…
It was the power of a dream that exceeded his imagination.
This can be defined as the vision deep down inside, what we were born to do, what we were specifically created for. It sparks our feeling of mission and defines the feeling of purpose in our lives.
Everyone has a God given purpose to accomplish, fulfill, and complete. Once we get a hold of it nothing can stop us and we’ll be equipped with the faith to move mountains!!
Too many people get lost in the busyness, stress, concerns, and affairs of life.
Too many others are limited by circumstances, people, our own minds, lies of the enemy, etc.
“that’s not your gifting” “you’ll never amount to anything” “many have tried, what can you do?”
“God has forgotten you” “no one can trust you”
“I can’t do it” “I don’t have the abilities”
Others are gripped with the fear of the unknown.
Or our dreams are too small compared to God’s amazing plans.
“At the top of the stairway stood the LORD, and he said, ‘I am the LORD, the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I will give it to you and your descendants. Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth! They will cover the land from east to west and from north to south. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants. What’s more, I will be with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. I will someday bring you safely back to this land. I will be with you constantly until I have finished giving you everything I have promised’” (Genesis 28:13-15).
Jacob was a conniving punk. He stole his brother Esau’s birthright and inheritance, then fled. Gaining Esau’s wealth and calling were miniscule compared to God’s blessing for him. When He gives us a dream to fulfill, He’ll work out the details. Answers to How am I going to do it? What will it cost? How long will it take?
- Protection, provision, and safety
- Innumerable descendants
- Will be a source of God’s blessing to the nations
- Privilege of being in God’s will
- Gods Presence and favor
While Jacob wanted command of his family, God’s plans were way beyond Jacob’s dreams; it was his destiny that would outlive him even 6,000 years later. Our dreams are nothing compared to our destiny.
- What is my greatest passion? – the thing I love doing so much that I would gladly do it for free?
- Are my dreams too small? Am I giving in to human limitations? Am I sensing a destiny greater than my dreams?
